About Our Dental Practice
John Michael Tate, DDS
John Michael Tate, DDS, a native of Southlake and Valedictorian of his Carroll High School class, earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) with honors from Baylor College of Dentistry. After graduation, he established his practice serving Southlake, Grapevine and the surrounding Northeast Tarrant County communities, while serving as Assistant Professor of Restorative Dentistry at Baylor College of Dentistry. Dr. Tate has postgraduate training in complex restorative dentistry, orthodontics, cosmetic dentistry and dental implants. In addition to all phases of preventive and restorative dentistry, Dr. Tate offers both clear aligner orthodontics (Invisalign, Clear Correct) and traditional orthodontics.
While committed to providing the very best care for his patients, Dr. Tate continues his training through many avenues including C.A.R.D. (Center for Aesthetic Restorative Dentistry) where he is on the teaching faculty. He is a Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry and a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honorary Dental Society, the Odontological Honor Society, Dallas and Tarrant County Dental Societies, American Orthodontic Society, and long time member of the Texas Dental Association and American Dental Association.
Dr. Tate is a fourth generation native to the Southlake-Grapevine area and proudly says he is practically kin to the dirt. He loves this community and the people. He is married with four grown children and four grandchildren. He and his wife Sue count it a blessing to have most of their family still living close to home. Their youngest and only daughter is still living in Oklahoma where her husband is finishing college. While Sue and Dr. Tate enjoy both their own family and church family, they also enjoy traveling and getting away from routine when the opportunity arises.
Dr. Tate is honored to have had his son, Dr. John Tyler Tate, join him in practice in 2011. He counts it a gift to have such an outstanding young man join him in what they both love to do (care for patients). Dr. Tate says of his son, “he has great hands and a caring heart and is a great asset to the Practice and to the community.”
Dr. Tyler Tate
Dr. Tyler was born and raised in Southlake. From his kindergarten start at Jack D. Johnson Elementary to graduating from Carroll High School in 2002, Dr. Tyler was very active in school and community activities. He participated in varsity sports including football and track and was a member of the CHS marching band. He completed his undergraduate degree at Oklahoma State University and is a 2011 graduate of Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, TX where he was involved in many organizations and developed the skills necessary to serve and educate our community.
Currently living in Grapevine, Texas with his beautiful wife, Tara, and their four month old son Andy, Dr. Tyler and his family really love the area. They enjoy being involved at First Baptist Church of Grapevine as well as spending time with all their friends and family at the lake. When Dr. Tyler is away from his patients, he enjoys the outdoors. He spends his free time mountain biking, road biking, fishing, wakeboarding, gardening and playing indoor soccer.
Dr. Tyler’s interest in the dental profession began at an early age. While in high school, he would assist his father with weekend emergency patients, and during the summer months, while in college, he would often be found observing and learning more about the profession over the shoulder of his father. Though Dr. Tyler has completed his formal education, he desires to further his education and stay current with the latest techniques and materials available so that he can offer the best to his patients. Dr. Tyler is a member of the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, and the Academy of Osseointegration. He is currently a participant and attendee of hands on courses offered by the C.A.R.D.(Center for Aesthetic Restorative Dentistry). Locally, Dr. Tyler stays involved with the Fort Worth District Dental Society, Dallas County Dental Society, and the Texas Dental Association.
As a life time patient of his father, Dr. John Michael Tate, Dr. Tyler has seen the compassion and dedication Dr. Tate and his staff have put into serving their patients and hopes to learn a lot more from them. Dr. Tyler is committed to continuing the traditions set by his father and will strive toward keeping the practice philosophy of always putting the patient first, educating patients and treating others as he would want to be treated.
Dr. Tyler looks forward to meeting you and your family soon.

We have been patients of Dr. Tate for 27 years. Thirteen years ago, we moved from Grapevine to the Decatur area (Wise County). He is so wonderful, that we continue to drive to Grapevine (60 miles each way) to see him! His staff is wonderful too! Everybody is professional, polite, and friendly. Dr. Tate is very quiet and reassuring. Processes are virtually pain-free. The most you ever feel is the shot to numb you up and honestly, it's no big deal. You hardly ever have to wait very long to keep your appointment. Everything runs on time. The entire office atmosphere is one of quiet and relaxation. If you are new to the area and need a dentist, or maybe just need a change, give Dr. Tate a try! I don't think you will be sorry!
